I tire quickly when I hear how friends have been taken by disreputable online marketers who took advantage of their ignorance and sold them a high dollar website, they didn’t need and couldn’t use, to do what a small inexpensive site will do. The worst is when they actually buy the site, then the company doesn’t fulfill their end of the bargain and actually set it up in my clients names. OUCH!
How can you make money online with a site that isn’t in your name? How can you do anything online if you don’t know how to run your site and it is too complicated to learn?
There’s a better way…
Domain -
You need to determine the niche you want to serve and locate the perfect domain name. Once you’ve done that, you need to purchase that domain name and own it. You don’t want someone else to own it, you want to own that domain name.
Hosting -
If you’re not capable of setting up your own site, then find a hosting company who will work with your site manager. ASK your web designer who they prefer to use. This is really important, the web designer WILL have a preferred company. Use that company. It’s really important, because not only will your web designer want to use that company, but you’re going to want your web designer to tell you how to use that company. If they don’t know how, they won’t be able to share that information with you.
Design -
There are thousands of templates and designs out there that work from different people. If you’re going to be working on your own site, you want the easiest form of content manager you can get with variable s that will work for your business online. Ask your web designer for suggestions, first.
If they don’t suggest WordPress, ask why not. If you’re going to be running the site, wordpress is the easiest site on the market. And you can change it up once you learn how, too. Don’t settle for less than one you can eventually manage yourself. Your web designer may go out of business and you’ll need to know how to manage your hosting and site.
